Key Differences Between Vedic and Western Astrology

  • Western Astrology is based primarily on the position of the Sun at the time of birth. The zodiac signs used in this system are commonly known worldwide, such as Aries, Taurus, Gemini, and so on.
  • Vedic Astrology, also known as Jyotish Shastra, is based on the lunar system and considers the actual positions of planets at the time of birth. In India, zodiac signs are often referred to as Rashi.

Another key difference is that Vedic astrology takes into account the continuous movement of planets and their changing positions over time, which is believed to influence interpretations and predictions.

Beliefs and Interpretations

In astrology, it is believed that the positions of planets at the time of birth can influence an individual’s personality traits and life patterns.

For example, different zodiac signs are associated with certain characteristics. However, these interpretations vary widely depending on the astrological system and the practitioner.

It is important to note that astrology is viewed differently across cultures—some consider it a traditional belief system, while others see it as a symbolic or philosophical framework rather than a scientific method.

Cultural Significance in India
