Why Indian cities suck
India's cities are one of the best cities to live in. In this post, we will look at India's best cities including Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Kolkata, Gurugram and Delhi. In Mumbai, the cost of renting a apartment(or flat) is very high. All of the formal housing put togther in Mumbai, 10,000 square feet only is available. Mumbai's property market has become investment market and not housing market.
This means many people have taken homes in Delhi not for living but for investment. India's biggest slum area is in Mumbai, and it's called Dharavi, which has population of 8 lacs. If you visit jungles and mountains, you will find better creatures. In Dharavi, you will find worst things every. Pollution, pollutants, untreated water. Toxic gases are released when these wastes are burned. 80 to 90% of waste is untreated. It is dumped in landfills or on roads. 40% of plastic waste generated in India isn't treated but dumped on roads on landfills.
In India, air pollution, is so severe that 12 lacs Indians die every year. Top 9 of 10 polluted cities are in India. It has also been repepted that countries like Syria( where war is in progress since years) is better than India. Singapore is one of the best environments to live in. Anamik Nagrik gave no broken window theory which means that when people see waste anywhere, they look at it and start spreading waste there. If you see stains of paan on a wall, they will do it. Second theory proposed by analyst Anamika Nagrik is theory of the commons. Many people in India feel low when they are asked to clean shit. Just think about it, when there's marriage, a baby is born, you do clean everything properly. It should be responsibility of Indians to clean. Attitude is very important.
Governance in our country is bad. There is no incentive provided to people who would like to nominate themselves in cleaning roads and houses. Improving public infrastructure is everyone's responsibility. In Delhi, AAP launches anti-smog guns and launched Odd-Even. Forest cover is reducing gradually in India. There is no decentralisation power in India. India's 3% budget is spent on cleaning and waste management. Today, America is the world's largest exporter of arms and guns. 40% of top arms company are based out of USA. USA have their military stations installed everywhere in almost every area. In Indore, there problems are solvable, just accountability is required. Trains are crowded in India.
In Bangalore, fans are worried due to traffic. 6th congested city in the world is Bengaluru. Mumbai too is one of the congested cities in the world. Barfi Wala Flyover in Mumbai hasn't been renovated yet. Many bridges and flyovers aren't reinvented which results in collapses, which results in fatalities and casualties. 20,000 Crore( this amount is lost in Bengaluru due to traffic) every year. Apart from economic loss, this also costs financial and emotional loss. In Bengaluru, BDA, BMRCL, BMTC non-electic bodies fight with other regulated entities. No one wants to resolve these issues.
The solution is to improve local level bodies. Autonomy must be given to bodies to improve results. Indian goverment does micro management and doesn't even held accountability. Indian cities municipality must get autonomy to regulate things. In Bengaluru, women's have been granted free travel in buses. This scheme is very good but Bengaluru goverment didn't support local body( BMTC) which is causing an issue. De-centralization is critical so that every entity performs their duty properly...
